I have just read an article that has to do with global warming and how it is effecting the Arctic ice. Which means global warming is starting to affect our planet more. We need to take better care of the earth, if we want to be able to live longer. the polar bears are starting to lose their homes and it is bad. We need to be more careful.

The article shows that the Arctic ice is melting quicker then we thought. The Arctic ice is starting to melt half of the Arctic ice and the polar bears are the ones paying the price. Other animals that live in the Arctic are also paying the price because they are losing their homes which is bad because where will they live next. Polar bears are not the only animal that is going extinct. From 1979 to 2012 literally half of the arctic ice has melted. A NASA climate scientist named James Hanser reported that the Russian heat wave of 2010 and the Texas heat wave of 2011 would both have not happened if it was not for global warming going on. Other examples of extreme weather are a dried of up lake bed in San Angelo, Texas in august 2011 and flooding from hurricane sandy.

The article also shows that beneath the melting arctic ice there are mineral resources like oil, gas, gold, precious gems, and rare earth metals. Since information has been passed on throughout the world, there are other countries who are trying to exploit it. cellphones in the u.s are made of a rare earth metal only found  under the arctic ice. Also people do not know who owns the arctic because 6 countries are in that territory. Also greenland is now becoming a hotspot with econmic activity the author says.

My opinion is that we need to start saving the earth. Which means that we need to start recycling, which is also something that people need to do more often. I think that the schools are doing a good job of trying to make kids recycle in the schools and it is great what they are doing with the different color bins. we need to do that in our homes. My home we have two bins for bottles and for garbage. Sometimes I think that people want this earth to die.

So I conclude that the arctic ice should be saved and we need to start taking care of the earth. Global warming is happening even faster and we are doing nothing to stop, but there are some people that are trying to save the earth. But there are people who do not do anything to save the earth and some people just do not care. Global warming is bad and people need to start to realize that and I think people need to care a little bit more. So I conclude that we need to start to be more careful with the earth and we need to take better care of the arctic.
